Prezziez Advent Calendar

Prezziez Advent Calendar Teaching Notes
* Demo each block slowly and extensively. Give students time to
make at least one block before moving on. As the class progresses,
and whilst each block is explained, you will find that students
are planning their project and often asking questions accordingly.
Most will work exactly to the pattern but others will move their
work in a slightly different direction.
* Encourage students to leave the blocks with untrimmed edges.
It makes it easier to join creatively later. The ‘overlap
cut’ explained on the Samplerz leaflet best utilises rough
edges.
* I start off with the Xmas Treez blocks - it is the focus of
the quilt and time should be taken co-ordinating colours and fabrics.
* The Prezziez blocks are easy to make. Turning them into pockets
is not difficult, it takes more fabric, more time and a good iron!
* Spikey Starz has techniques that are different again from the
first two blocks. In reality one of the more difficult Stargazey
Quilts patterns. Get them making the shy versions first - if they
have design challenges all will be hidden. Save the shining star
until confidence is high.
* The quilting is an important feature here. I quilted the backgrounds
very heavily after ditch stitching - effectively shrinking the quilt
top and making the pockets pop out.
* Make sure that there is fabric available for sale. Often extra
prints are needed to bring variety and interest.
* Refer to the two individual patterns for extra notes
Three Week Class / One or Two Day Intensive Class
*This quilt works well as a three week, three hour session class
working on one block per week. The first week spent making the Xmas
Treez block could be fleshed out working out fabrics or, as some
of my students did, making extra Xmas Treez for small gift projects.
*As a one day class the blocks can be demonstrated and at least
a block of each made.
*As a two day class many students will complete the project. |
