Girlz Stuff Small Project - Hatz & Handbagz with Ribbons & Roses

QUILT SIZE: 10 1/2” x 25 1/2” (without lace edging)

HATZ
Cut out a 10” Hatz block. omitting the bottom background.
Gather up ribbon by pulling on both wires until full enough.
Pin 1/4” up from lower edge on body then cut off excess ribbon.
Stitch along both edges then remove wire.
Continue on with the block as usual.
Trim the sides and top as a 10 1/2” unit

HANDBAGZ
Cut out a 10” Handbagz block. omitting the top and bottom backgrounds.
On the flap front, gather and stitch on ribbon in columns before cutting off excess ribbon and removing the wire. I left a 1/4”sih gap between the ribbons to show off the flap fabric.
Continue on with the flap and the handbag sides.
Trim the sides and bottom as a 10 1/2” unit

POLE
Cut a pole 1 1/2”-2” x 11”.
Cut two backgrounds 7” x 11”
Stitch the three pieces together. Lay them in position between the blocks and trim the sides to 10 1/2”. Use the overlap cut to trim then stitch the pole to the bottom of the hatz unit.

Lay the blocks in position on your cutting board. Line them on the 26” mark then execute the last overlap cut.
Prepare and stitch on a handle in position. Stitch the last seam.

FINISHING/QUILTING
Sandwich.
Machine quilt around the Hatz, Handbagz, Pole and Handle in the ditch. Free machine quilt wavy rosez in the background.
Bind.

Lace Edging
Lay the lace edging in position and stitch on by hand. Mitre the corners for best effect. I trimmed off the excess lace from the mitre.

Ribbon Roses
I used leftover lengths of ribbon from the hat and bag trims, then made up roses in different ways and stitched them in position;
1. gather the lower edge of wire, finishing up under the centre, scrunch and stitch in position
2. start off with one ribbon, continue with another finishing up under the centre, scrunch and stitch in position
3. gather both wires and gather, finishing up under the centre, scrunch and stitch in position

Black ribbon
I hand stitched on this striking ribbon in a formal bow for the handbag.
It also worked as an extra trim for the hat

note: excuse the poor photo taken on hotel carpet! better one coming eventually
