Cushion Recipez

Cushion Recipez Teaching Notes
*The focus on these classes may be the block or the cushion.
- If the block is the focus then spend time demonstrating its intricacies
before students make their block. In this case the cushion simply
becomes a vehicle for making a quick achievable project.
- If the cushion is the focus then it may be advisable for the students
to come with their premade blocks. Time can then be spent in class
making well finished cushions.
*Encourage experimentation. We have included ‘Other Ingredients’
and ‘Changing Flavours’ to encourage both student and
teacher input. Simply changing sizes may be challenging enough for
some students but making up their own border arrangements may be stimulating
for others.
*Try making samples with different blocks. You may have a new technique
you want to try out or promote. We’d be happy for Cushion Recipez
to be used as a vehicle for your ideas....... paper pieced blocks,
traditional blocks, embroidered blocks?
*Cushion Recipez is a great way to get new customers hooked on stitching.
The projects are easily made in day and skills can be built up in
a series of classes. Why not make it a beginners course and teach
them the skills of rotary cutting, piecing and machine quilting?
Class Ideas
ONE WEEK CLASS
1. Have blocks made before class so that the class is dedicated
to cushion making.
2. Hold the class for block making as a morning class, in the afternoon
the cushion can be made.
TWO WEEK CLASS
1. Hold the class for block making as a first class, in the second
week the cushion can be made.
THREE WEEK CLASS

students), then the cushion can be worked through, as a class, step-by-step.
2. Pick any Stargazey block for the first week and make a few blocks.
In the second week make the Cushion of your choice. In the third session
make another project from the Recipez series.
2. Pick any Stargazey block for the first week and make a few blocks
(e.g. three 6” and three 8”). In the second week make
the Sweetie pie and Cupcake. In the third session make Honeybun and
