Deb’s Treez Picnic Quilt Instructions

Here in Perth summers we often picnic under the night sky watching movies or concerts. Our centre was appropriately chosen. If you picnic by daylight you may want to change the centre square to a green Meadowz fabric.

QUILT SIZE: 52” x 52” (132cm x 132cm)

CENTRE
Cut a centre from ‘clouds’ fabric, 30” square.

INNER BORDER
Cut two sides, 2” x 30”. Stitch on.
Cut a top and bottom, 2” x 33”. Stitch on.

BLOCKS
Using the 4” block size, cut and piece 64 treez triangles and background squares to make up 64 treez units.
You will need to make up thirty two Treez blocks from these.
Piece the Treez, prepare and stitch on the trunks, then trim the blocks to 4 1/2” x 10 1/2”.

TREEZ BORDER
Arrange the treez around the centre.
Stitch together two sides, a top and a bottom border each of eight Treez blocks.

Stitch the two side borders to the centre.

Cut four corner blocks from ‘rain’, each 10 1/2” square. Stitch on to each end of the top and bottom treez border.

FINISHING/QUILTING
Sandwich.
Machine quilt around the treez and inner borders in the ditch. Free machine quilt clouds in the centre and starz in the treez’ backgrounds.
Bind and label.
