Treez Teaching Notes
*The cutting and sewing for this quilt is super easy but students
must be super organised in both their work order and work area.
*Take students through the initial process of cutting tree fabric
and background fabric and lead them through the stitching in Step
1 only.
To take the process all the way through may lose the less confident
so let them get started on the stitching frenzy before bringing
them back for more.
*Accentuate the mirror image needed in cutting the background triangles
- see ‘working in Stargazey style’ point 10. You may need
to demonstrate both the right and the wrong way to do this!
*When the class leaders are ready to slice the treez units gather
all students together to show how to slice and rebuild the treez.
Examples of different types of treez, (tall, small, fat, skinny,
curved, tapered, topless, and very odd are just some of the varieties!)
would be very helpful. Different stitchers will grow different treez
- help them develop the style they desire.
*Setting the treez together is not a process to be rushed. They
may need to bring a sheet to work on at this stage to take their
incomplete work home.

B.O.M/Class Ideas
THREE WEEK CLASS
1. A Seasonal Treez class would be fun. Use four different fabric
palettes to make a seasonal theme - summer, winter, spring and autumn.
It could be set as a row-by-row or as a four-cornered quilt. Week
three is used for setting.
2. Combine treez with machine applique in a Christmas theme. Applique
decorations, presents, reindeers. This would be great teaching how
to use braids, ribbons and embellishments effectively. One big tall
tree could be an advent calender or lots of little ones a border to
the students stunning applique.
FOUR WEEK CLASS
1. Housez, Treez and Slender Starz then a setting night.
2. Treez, Daisiez, Butterfliez and a setting night.
B.O.M.
1. Samplerz#1-Country Housez. This combines Slender Starz, Treez,
Housez, Daisiez and Butterfliez
2. Kitez, Planez and Spikey or Slender Starz in the quilt body with
6” Treez as a border.
3. Ladybirdz, Beez, Butterfliez and Daisiez in the quilt body with
Treez as a border
