Deb’s Spikey Starz Cot Quilt Instructions

QUILT SIZE: 37” x 45” (95cm x 115cm)

BLOCKS
Make four 8”, eight 6” and four 4” Spikey Starz blocks.
Deb made hot pink starz with yellow backgrounds and vivid blue centres.

Stitch them together in four, 8” x 24” rows.
Each row contains one 8”, two 6” and one 4” blocks.
-the 6” blocks need a 2 1/2” x 6 1/2” gap filler attached to make row size.
-the 4” blocks need a 4 1/2” square gap filler attached to make row size.

INNER BORDER
Cut two sides, 1” x 32 1/2”. Stitch on.
Cut a top and bottom, 1” x 25 1/2”. Stitch on.

OUTER BORDER
Make twenty-two 4” Spikey Starz blocks.
Deb made yellow starz with hot pink backgrounds and vivid blue centres.
To set them on point;
Cut forty-four 5” squares. Cut them in half diagonally to make eighty-eight triangles. Stitch on two opposite corners first, centring them. Trim the edges level with the blocks. Stitch on the last two corners.

Trim the four corner blocks to 6 1/2” square.
Trim the other eighteen blocks to 6 1/2” x their maximum length possible;
Stitch together 5 blocks to equal 32 1/2” for the sides, trimming their lengths as necessary. Stitch on.
Stitch together 4 blocks to equal 25 1/2” for the top and bottom, trimming their lengths as necessary. Stitch a corner block on each end. Stitch on.

FINISHING/QUILTING
Sandwich.
Machine quilt around the starz, their centres and the border in the ditch. Free machine quilt a version of spikey starz in the backgrounds.
Bind and label.
