Shoez

Shoez Display and Merchandising

DISPLAY AREA
*Have a specific area to display for full impact. It may be the shop window, it may be at store entry as a welcome display, a well lit back corner to pull customers all the way to the back of the store or it could be near the counter to encourage spenders to be more inspired. Make sure your sample is well lit!

*Offer colour co-ordinated starter packs of fabrics for each pattern instead of or as well as specific kits. Offer them either in the pattern colours or your sample colours.

DISPLAY IDEAS
*Shoes - plenty of them! Empty your wardrobe or borrow. Look for the girliest varieties you can find and;
-stack them on shoe boxes
-hang them in pairs off coat hangers
-place them on shelves around the store

*Buy some from the opportunity shop and spray paint them - red is good but colours to co-ordinate with your sample would be even better!

*Roll out the red carpet leading to your in-store display, or roll a bolt of red fabric out in your window display. Hollywood stars is the theme here.

*Cut out shoe silhouettes from ‘contact’ adhesive and lead everyone to your display.

*Cinderella is a lovely theme to work with;
-your sample could have lots of pretty, strappy and lacey versions with a see-through organza as the glass slipper.
-Your display could have pumpkins, elegant shoes laying in wait or a lovely ‘ball gown’ (real or cut out like a paper doll costume!).
-Children's books, open at Cinderella’s glass slipper, would look good here.

USING OTHER QUILT STORE MERCHANDISE IN YOUR DISPLAY

*Buttons, buckles, ribbons and beads are all superb in your shoez blocks.

*Piles of funky or useful shoelaces could also be incorporated into Shoez blocks.

*Delicious fabrics - silk, brocade and ‘suede’ would be beautiful. Cut these into 8” squares for easy purchase.

*If you are into embroidery and embellishment, do some samples with pretty threads and stitches, ribbon roses, or make some tassels. Various books, equipment and threads would need to be available for sale.

*Ballet shoez may require ‘tube turning’ equipment handy.

*Search for patterns for shoe stuffers (it’s on our to-do list!). Make some up or find some to sell. Sell the smelly ingredients too!

*Foot care products may not go astray. Lotions, soaks, and pedicure equipment could be effectively displayed.

FABRIC PACKS
1. Fat quarter packs are also a great starter and easy to cut, sell and display. Include different amounts to suit different pockets and projects; 5 of each, 10 of each, 10/5 split etc.
TRY; black and white print fabrics
red shoez fabrics and pinstriped black & white background fabrics
white shoez fabrics and shabby chic background fabrics

2. Roll up fat quarters and pack in boxes - ideally the same proportion as a shoe box but embellished with your store’s logo. Be creative with your computer here!

3. Tie up your fabric packs with shoe laces.

4. 8” squares are fine to make any size Shoez. Pile them up to sell solo or group them in packs of twelve. Especially good if you have co-ordinating fabrics for the inner solez.
