Shoez Teaching Notes

*Initially I demo a pointy pair of Shoez but rather than completing two matching blocks I modify the second of the shoez according to class desire. Usually it is enough to show how to split and insert a ‘mary jane’ strap.

*Some students need to be shown where best to place the ‘toez background’.
I like to have them fill in the space to give a trimming line. Some may need to use a ruler placed along the shoez edges to see the space to be filled. Remember that the seam will alter the filling space. If a student has a consistent problem with placement of the ‘toez background’, have the student cut a bigger piece.

*The backgrounds can use a lot of fabric. Be economical by cutting fabric for the backgrounds as needed.

*If block size isn’t achieved by cutting the required backgrounds I suggest that the corner can be ‘patched’ or the last background may be unpicked and be moved or replaced.

*This is a wonderful pattern for individual embellishment. Encourage brainstorming.

*Variation can be in the fabric print, fabric style, in embellishment, in splitting the blocks and inserting straps and/or modifying it’s style.
