Pineapplez
Pineapplez Display and Merchandising
DISPLAY AREA
* Have a specific area to display for full impact. It may be the
shop window, it may be at store entry as a welcome display, a well
lit back corner to pull customers all the way to the back of the
store or it could be near the counter to encourage spenders to be
more inspired. Make sure it is well lit!
*offer colour co-ordinated starter packs of fabrics for each pattern
instead of or as well as specific kits. Offer them either in the
pattern colours or your sample colours.
DISPLAY IDEAS
*Your sample quilt with a basket, a line, or a ‘tumble’
of real pineapple would be wonderful for a couple of weeks. Aromatic
and fresh.
*Pineapple produce. Go to the supermarket and gather all the pineapple
produce you can find; cans of pineapple, pineapple juice etc. Stacks
in the window would be great.
*Pineapple Party. Jugs of pineapple juice, cocktail glasses with
paper umbrellas and swizzle sticks, old fashioned party food like
cheese cubes, pineapple pieces and salami on toothpicks poking out
from oranges. Retro spectacular! Advertise it. Alternately have
pieces of Pineapple Boiled Fruit cake or Hummingbird Cake for customers
(email me if you need a recipe).
*Hawaii. Place all things Hawaiian under and around your store
sample. Gather all the tourist dross or the tasteful pieces.
*Gather all the juice jugs and glasses - both long and cocktail
-then line them up pointing the way to the quilt. It wouldn’t
be clever to fill them with pineapple juice but you could crush/shred
tissue paper into them or fill them with jelly!
USING OTHER QUILT STORE MERCHANDISE IN YOUR DISPLAY
*Hawaiian applique books, patterns and fabric are obvious if you
are looking at the Hawaiian theme.
FABRIC PACKS
1. Fat quarter packs are also a great starter and easy to cut, sell
and display. Include different amounts to suit different pockets
and projects; 5 of each, 10 of each, 10/5 split etc.
TRY: aqua and yellow fabrics
OR: green and yellow
2. Packs of 6” squares of yellows topped with four rolled-up-tight
fat eighths will be a great Pineapplez starter. Wrap in cellophane
and pop a fun swizzle stick or drinking straw to decorate.
3. Make up a Pineapplez pack, FQ’s of yellow, aqua and green
prints. The Pineapplez pattern and a few pineapple products in a
‘hamper’.
4. Cut a few 6” times half bolt width yellows. Roll all
together to form an attractive pineapple body. Wrap with a large
square of cellophane held lightly at the top with a rubber band.
Roll up five or so rolled-up-tight fat eighths and pop them in the
top, held by the rubber band and sitting upright. Secure them with
a lovely aqua ribbon.
