Pencilz

Pencilz Teaching Notes

*The pencilz units are very easy, the only place where students falter is in placing the top backgrounds appropriately. Encourage variety in their placement. Don’t let them worry if the wood/body junction is not pointy - a sweet point is more luck than good planning!

*When making the pencilz units into blocks have them progress from A through C. Only encourage the more able students to make block D as it is one that requires patience.

*The border on my sample quilt is stunning but takes a lot of pencilz and time- it took me three days! Don’t discount the idea though - it would also be very good made with background fillers in between each pencil - this would cut the time taken by about two thirds.

*There are many other ways the pencilz units can be used. Hold a brainstorming session - anywhere you can place a strip you can add a pencil!
(Don’t forget that you can lengthen the background tops and base).
