Heartz
Heartz Display and Merchandising
DISPLAY AREA
* Have a specific area to display for full impact. It may be
the shop window, it may be at store entry as a welcome display,
a well lit back corner to pull customers all the way to the back
of the store or it could be near the counter to encourage spenders
to be more inspired. Make sure your sample is well lit!
*offer colour co-ordinated starter packs of fabrics for each pattern
instead of or as well as specific kits. Offer them either in the
pattern colours or your sample colours.
DISPLAY IDEAS
*Valentines Day theme is an obvious one. Bring cupid into your
store either as gilt hanging models or photocopied versions mounted
on card (black and white copies that are hand coloured with a touch
of rouge on the cheeks and draped in ribbons or fat quarters of
fabrics).
Even cupids bow and arrow could be pointing to store specials,
or the way to your stunning display!
*Using my Starz on Stickz free download accessed HERE,
make heartz versions. Keep pots of love on a stick or
string them up to make loverly garlands. Lovers arrowz
can be made with the stick sharpened appropriately. Staff members
would also be wearing heart brooches of course!
*Make up a pile of cushions, from large to pincushion size. Each
should have a heartz block as the feature. Encourage personalisation
with a pile of pigma pens to write a love note. Or, have fabric
marking pens, needles and appropriately coloured embroidery threads
to immortalise two names.
*Candy heart bracelets are a classic! Pile pastel fabrics, buy
in baskets of the bracelets then copy and enlarge the quotes. What
fun for the little girl in your life. Is this an area for a kids
class?
*Gather all things red, roses, chocolate boxes, hearts, fabrics,
buttons. Go glitzy here!
*Follow the Heart and Home theme with all things folksy. Combine
Heartz with Housez and start to fill out a loving hearth theme.
This would be lovely in winter using wools and felt.
USING OTHER QUILT STORE MERCHANDISE IN YOUR DISPLAY
*Chocolates. We all love them, why cant you use them in your
display and sell them! Even jars of individual chocs would work
here.
*Cards and gift wrap could be included in any love theme.
*Gather all heart patterns - there are lots of applique ones in
particular. Open up to appropriate pages in books too.
*Heart fabrics flowing on the bolt - simple!
FABRIC PACKS
1. Fat quarter packs are also a great starter and easy to cut,
sell and display. Include different amounts to suit different pockets
and projects; 5 of each, 10 of each, 10/5 split etc.
TRY; batiks and co-ordinating print fabrics
2. Our small project uses bright flannels. Fat eighths and fat
quarters are appropriate here.
3. Red fabrics folded as rectangles overlapping at the base. Or
just a wonderful selection of red prints.
4. Heart fabrics packed together. Perhaps ribbon and a chocolate
would be welcome here.
