Stack O’ Hatz Quilt Instructions
QUILT SIZE: 19 1/2” x 60” (50cm x 153cm)
BLOCKS
Make five 10” Hatz with no background bottoms and only one
background top. You may make tall, medium or short options with any options
given in the pattern.
Mine were, from top to bottom;
1. tall version with hatbandz and a button embellishment
2. tall version with rounded edges and upturned brim
3. medium version with basic bowz embellishment
4. medium version with rounded edges and ribbonz embellishment
5. tall version with sides tapering towards the top with upturned brim
and basic rosez embellishment
Trim and stitch the blocks together using the ‘overlap cut’
described in the Hatz pattern, (page 2, #10).
Stitch on the background top to the top Hatz block.
Trim the column across to an unfinished width of 11 1/2”.
Square off the top of the column.
Cut out and make up a large Hat Standz base, (page 6, #2).
Cut a pole 1 1/2” x 16” and two backgrounds 6 1/2” x
16” or as desired.
Complete the Stack O’ Hatz in a similar manner to the pattern (page
7).
Mine measured 11 1/2” x 52”. Yours could be slightly different,
if so adjust your borders to compensate.
INNER BORDER
Cut and join strips to equal;
Two sides, 1 1/2” x 52”. Stitch on.
A top and bottom, 1 1/2” x 13 1/2”. Stitch on.
OUTER BORDER
Cut and join strips to equal;
Two sides, 3 1/2” x 54 1/2”. Stitch on.
A top and bottom 3 1/2” x 19 1/2”. Stitch on.
FINISHING
This quick quilt was ditch stitched around the Hatz and borders.
The backgrounds were quilted with daisys and the outer border with paisley.
Bind & label.
