Hatz
Hatz Display and Merchandising
DISPLAY AREA
* Have a specific area to display for full impact. It may be the
shop window, it may be at store entry as a welcome display, a well
lit back corner to pull customers all the way to the back of the
store or it could be near the counter to encourage spenders to be
more inspired. Make sure it is well lit!
*offer colour co-ordinated starter packs of fabrics for each pattern
instead of or as well as specific kits. Offer them either in the
pattern colours or your sample colours.
DISPLAY IDEAS
* There are some wonderful hats themes that you could draw on and
decorate appropriately. Props could be 3-d items, drawings or photocopies
could be made of different characters, scenes or related items
*Mad Hatters Tea Party; have fun with whacky crockery on a shelf
or table. Hats would be an optional extra. Fake cakes and food would
be terrific.
*A Day at the Races. You’ll need some hobby horses, binoculars,
race guides and some over the top hats!
*Ladiez who Lunch. Set up a table with place settings for each
“hat”. Work at some different characters - perhaps get
each staff member to contribute.
*Red Hatz society. Lots to be done here if this theme works well
in your area
*Top Hatz in black for a the male angle. Short ‘boater’
versions for the sportier male. This could be great for the fashion
conscious boy in your life.
USING OTHER QUILT STORE MERCHANDISE IN YOUR DISPLAY
*Loop
turners are wonderful for making “ribbonz”.
*Buttons - big ones are needed. Showy, glittery ones as well as
solid black.
*Ribbons for Rosez or Bowz on Hatz. Wire edged types work very
well.
*Red Hat Society products are ideal here. There are so many available
which will make your buying easy.
*Books on ribbon rosez and millinery are great sidelines.
FABRIC PACKS
1. Fat quarter packs are also a great starter and easy to cut, sell
and display. Include different amounts to suit different pockets
and projects; 5 of each, 10 of each, 10/5 split etc.
TRY: green and black fabrics
OR: predominantly black fabrics and contrasting white fabrics
2. For 10” Hatz, like my sample, have packs of twelve co-ordinated
12” squares. This will be enough for the hatz and a variety
of small embellishments.
3. A fat quarter of background, a fat eighth each of Hatz &
Hatz Stand fabrics and buttons or ribbon for embellishment would
make a great starter kit.
