Handbagz

Handbagz Display and Merchandising

DISPLAY AREA
* Have a specific area to display for full impact. It may be the shop window, it may be at store entry as a welcome display, a well lit back corner to pull customers all the way to the back of the store or it could be near the counter to encourage spenders to be more inspired. Make sure it is well lit!

*offer colour co-ordinated starter packs of fabrics for each pattern instead of or as well as specific kits. Offer them either in the pattern colours or your sample colours.

DISPLAY IDEAS
*Have handbags hanging in a block-like grid next to your sample quilt set the same way.

*Have secondhand or borrowed handbags snaking through your store - leading to your Handbagz display.

*Cut out handbags, shoes, hats and gloves (perhaps be risque and include lingerie?) out of cardboard and have them hanging in your window or around your store. These would be great cut from fabric fused cardboard or color photocopies of ‘real’ fabric combos.

USING OTHER QUILT STORE MERCHANDISE IN YOUR DISPLAY

*Every gal loves handbags. Pick up a selection that relate to the feel of your store. Display them with sewing items.

*There are lots of books and patterns on the market at the moment. Gather them into a display. Make a few samples to illustrate the variety. Have these samples for sale as they are easy enough to replace.

*Buttons, laces, braids and beads are wonderful for Hangbagz closure or for handles. Be creative. Make up a sample block or two to sell the ideas.

FABRIC PACKS
1. Fat quarter packs are also a great starter and easy to cut, sell and display. Include different amounts to suit different pockets and projects; 5 of each, 10 of each, 10/5 split etc.
TRY; pink and black fabrics
or wild stripes with coordinated calmer fabrics

2. Purchase a handbag package. I’ve seen some in clear acetate - search your packaging supply. Fill with charm squares or fat eighths.

3. Put together a handbag package. Three coordinating 10” squares is plenty for a handbag (not including backgrounds). Pack these in cellophane bags about nine to a bag showing a slice of all. You could include some coordinating braids, chains or buttons.
