Handbagz

Handbagz Teaching Notes
*These are super easy blocks, you will encounter very few problems
when teaching these.
*I generally ask the class whether they want to make pockets,
if so I will demonstrate these in the intial block. Even though
it is an extra process it is still not too much for most to take
in.
*I generally don’t demonstrate applique to the group in
the initial demo. I take aside those who need a lesson a little
later when the machines are whirring.
*Handles can be executed in many ways. Needleturn in all it’s
variations, machine stitched fused raw edge work, or stitching in
subsitutes of braids, chains or ribbons are the most popular. It
is good if you can have samples of each - though I’m still
working on it!
*The handles can be temporarily left off during class time - especially
useful for hand applique! Either leave them off completely or cut
the handles out, press the seam allowances under, (only where they
will be held in the seam), pin to the background top and stitch.
Applique can then be completed at leisure.
*Your students will make a different Handbagz block every time
- just like building their wardrobe. You can also encourage them
to make; Clutchez (no handle), Flapless Handbagz or Totez (great
with a pocket - then they are like Bucketz!
