Deb’s Daisiez Cushion Instructions

CUSHION SIZE: 37 1/2” x 37 1/2” (95cm x 95cm)

BLOCKS
Make these blocks;
Twelve 6” Daisiez (yellow daisiez on pink background)
Eight 6” Daisiez (pink daisiez on pink background)

Arrange these blocks in two circles on your design wall using the following background fabric for fillers.
Twelve 2 1/2” x 6 1/2” circle fillers.
Four 8 1/2” x 8 1/2” corner fillers.
One 6 1/2” x 6 1/2” centre square.

Stitch the top together, in the following sections, using the diagrams as your guide All sections are stitched from left to right.
Corner Sections

Make four corner sections as follows;
- stitch two yellow Daisiez to two circle fillers
- stitch the first Daisiez to a corner filler
- stitch the second Daisiez to a pink daisiez

Middle sections
Make four middle sections as follows;
-stitch a yellow daisiez, to a pink daisiez, to a circle filler

Top and Bottom sections
Using the initial diagram as your guide join two corner sections to a middle section to make the top section.
Repeat to make the bottom section.

Central section
- stitch two pink daisiez to circle fillers
- stitch the centre square in between these Daisiez
- stitch a yellow Daisiez block to each end

Stitch the three sections together

BORDER
Cut and stitch
Two sides 2 1/2” x 34 1/2”. Stitch on.
A top and bottom 2 1/2” x 38 1/2”. Stitch on.

BACKING
We made a zippered backing using a 24” zipper.

Cut a smaller section 38” x 19 1/2”.
Cut a larger section 38” x 20 1/2”.

Press a 1/2” seam allowance under on the smaller section.
Position the left side of zipper under the seam allowance, centred.
Pin and topstitch close to the zipper teeth.

Press a 1 1/2” seam allowance under on the larger section.
Press the raw edge in to meet the fold.
Place this edge over zipper extending over the left edge 1/4”.
Pin and stitch the right side ensuring inner edge is secure.
Topstitch across zipper ends and non zipper edges.

If necessary trim the back section to cushion top size.

FINISHING/QUILTING
Sandwich top and batting.
Ditch quilt around the outside of the daisiez and free machine quilt daisiez, swirls and leaves heavily on the backgrounds.
Join the front and back sections right sides together using a 1/4” seam allowance. Keep the zipper open to facilitate turning right side out.
