Cuppaz

Cuppaz Teaching Notes

*This is one of my ‘tighter’ measured blocks. There is not much room for generous trimming. You may need to have the freer students measure for block size before completion.

*The cup can be placed high or wide. I use it wide as the sides are sized for this direction. If placed high, mention that not too much can be trimmed from the sides.

*Cutting the sides is confusing when demonstrated but few have trouble once they understand the concept. It may be necessary to show them the three versions and their applications.

*The ‘overlap cut’ used when joining the cups and saucers into stacks needs to be shown after they have made a few blocks. Do not introduce it too soon as it may confuse some students.

*I rarely find it necessary to demo applique for the handles. You are welcome to introduce students to any form of applique you prefer.

*A series of sample cuppaz with different handle applications could be a useful teaching tool - one I will get to eventually!
