Three Kitty Catz Instructions
QUILT SIZE: 23” x 14” (59cm x 35cm)
BLOCKS
Make one 6” and two 4” Catz Face blocks.
Don’t trim them to block size.
Stitch extra backgrounds, 5 1/2” x 2 1/2” to the top of the
4” blocks.
Arrange the three blocks. Execute the ‘overlap cut’ to join
them OR merely straighten the edges in block format.
Stitch the three kitty catz together.
Trim to 16” x 6 1/2”.
INNER BORDER
Cut two sides, 1” x 6 1/2”. Stitch on.
Cut a top and bottom, 1” x 17”. Stitch on.
OUTER BORDER
I mitred the corners to better ‘frame’ the catz. You
may stitch on the sides then top and bottom, square as usual, if you prefer.
To mitre;
Cut two sides, 3 3/4” x 17”ish. Stitch on, starting and stopping
1/4” in from the edge with backstitches.
Cut a top and bottom, 3 3/4” x 26”ish. Stitch on, starting
and stopping 1/4” in from the edge with backstitches.
One corner at a time, fold under and press the mitre on one piece of each
corner so it looks perfect on top and the outer and inner edges of the
excess border line up and continue equally.
Open up carefully without moving the corner off line. Pin on the open
fold.
Stitch on the fold line, from the inner border to the outer edge, pulling
the inner border seams out of the way. Trim off excess border. Press.
FINISHING/QUILTING
Sandwich.
Machine quilt around the catz, collarz, nosez and inner border in the
ditch. Free machine quilt curls in the backgrounds and daisies on the
border.
Stitch on eyez.
Mark whiskers and the mouth with a silver pencil. Using two strands of
embroidery cotton backstitch along these lines.
Bind and label.
