Double Framed Squarez
QUILT SIZE: 56” x 72” (142cm x 183cm)
BLOCK SIZE: 8”, 48 needed
THE BLOCKS
inner framed squarez
Make forty-eight blocks
Cut;
centre squarez - 4” squares (cut 48)
inner framez; sides - 2” x 4” (cut 96)
top & bottom - 2” x 6 1/2” (cut 96)
(we cut these from woven plaids, cut on the cross-grain, these are
best stitched with the plaids at the back so that the feed dogs
control the bias)
Trim the centre squarez to shape, they need to be crooked!
Stitch on the sides. Press.
Trim the edges to straighten and shape.
Stitch on the top and bottom. Press.
Trim each block to shape, they need to be crooked!
outer frame
Cut forty-eight frames;
For each outer frame you’ll need;
two sides - 2 1/2” x 6 1/2”
a top & bottom - 2 1/2” x 9 1/2”
Stitch on the sides. Press.
Trim the edges to straighten and shape.
Stitch on the top and bottom. Press.
Trim the block to 8 1/2” square.
STITCHING THE BLOCKS
Arrange the blocks in a pleasing six by eight set. Stitch together.
INNER BORDER
Cut and join fabric to make;
Two sides, 1 1/2” x 64 1/2”. Stitch on.
A top and bottom 1 1/2” x 50 1/2”. Stitch on.
OUTER BORDER
Cut and join fabric to make;
Two sides, 3 1/2” x 66 1/2”. Stitch on.
A top and bottom 3 1/2” x 56 1/2”. Stitch on.
(we cut these from woven plaids, cut on the cross-grain, these are

TO FINISH
We ditch stitched around the borders, blocks, inner framez
and centre squarez. The inner framez and borders were then lightly
quilted, freehand, with various double stitched patterns
