Dogz
I’m a dog lover and have two dogz yet I’ve put
off designing a dog block for the simple reason that there
are too many varieties, each with their distinctive features.
If I couldn’t risk offending Rocket and Celeste by not
making one of them my muse then what about Chalkie, Eric and
Marley? In the end I’ve plunged in and created a set
of ‘pointy’ dogs heads with enough variety of
block sizes and body widths to fill a kennel. The main show
of character though is in the ears.
The easiest ears are sewn in and pointy but the excitement
is in the three dimensional, these flappy ones are made to
suit the look of your favourite pooch. Varying the eyes and
fur also should be enough to have appropriate representation
a fair proportion of our canine buddies. I think I’ve
got a fair dog show of coverage!
PS, if you have a round face dog I suggest adapting the
Catz pattern with appropriate dog earz. Catz could make nice
bulldogz! |

Fishez
Requests for a Stargazey Fishez block have been huge. My problem
in designing just one, with so many fish in the sea, is which
type of fish to choose? I've made a very simple version without
fiddly fins but giving a fat and skinny version in each of the
three sizes - 3" x 6", 4" x 8" and 6"
x 12". These fishez can be modified to have multiple-pieced
bodies, or you could add fins or a mouth with 3-D flaps or applique!
Hope you don't get tired of cutting rectangles because once
again that's what we're making our fishez from - no templates,
cutting quite freely, and no fancy stitching - all with usual
Stargazey ease.
Hope I have finally satisfied some of those aquatic itches.
Now, you must decide - do you want your fishez underwater, in
a tank, on fishing lines or on a plate? |

Glovez & Specz
Gardening glovez, White glovez, formal glovez.
Specz with eye spy fabrics or Sunglassez for a beach quilt.
Dark glasses and glovez for the Diva in you.
Two blocks, two sizes, two new ways to accessorise your
quilts! In usual Stargazey style these blocks are different
but not difficult. No templates, no perfect seams, just a
little bit of playful tweaking from block to block to make
you the designing diva.
Glovez & Specz blocks will also tie in beautifully with
other popular Stargazey patterns - Hatz, Handbagz and Shoez.
They will make great borders and blocks for other theme quilts...
hands with a heart block...the hand of friendship... or blocks
for a quirky friendship or autograph quilt?
Get your hands busy! |

Guyz & Girlz
When I design patterns I like to be able to use different
block sizes so that I, and others, can choose the correct
proportion for each project. Alas, these Guyz & Galz told
me instantly that they were special - not giants or midgets
- they wanted to stay ‘just right’ size. That
suited me - I could expend energy on developing different
ways to bring out their individual character instead. I’m
now a Fashion Designer and a Body Builder!
So we have one size, 6” x 12”, but plenty of
variations in hair and clothing style - and these changes
are still just a starting point.... |

Handbagz
Here is a girly treat to remind us just what fun dressing up
can be!
In usual Stargazey style these 4", 6", 8" and
10"blocks are simply cut from rectangles and quite freely
pieced. A big trim at the end creates perfect block sizings.
Flaps are cut to shape as you make up each handbag. Keep them
simple and rectangular, make easy triangles, or use your imagination
and stitch some groovy curves. You can decorate with buttons
to close the flaps, you could also change the shape of the hand
appliqued handles.
As a little extra for you to enjoy, in my sample I have made
three handbagz which have a "secret" compartment -
just like a real one! |

Hatz
When designing my Handbagz and Shoez patterns I wasn’t
planning the girly pairing to need a third element. Wrong!
Demand for Hatz has been so constant that I reluctantly acquiesced,
then set about to improve my millinery skills.
As a result we have three blocks to work with; 6”,
8” and 10” Hatz. Variety enough for any head.
Easy enough for anyone to make.
With a multitude of ways to change and decorate them, the
joy in making these blocks becomes quickly apparent;
- Make your hats tall, regular or short.
- Round off the body or leave it flat.
- Turn the brim up or turn it down.
- Include a hat band or leave them plain.
- Trim with ribbonz, bowz, rosez or buttons.
Now place these designer delights on hat boxes, float them
in a block, stack them on each other or perch them on hat
stands or heads.
Perhaps theme your Hatz blocks - from a day at the beach,
a day at the races to every Mad Hatters tea party in between.
I’m not a hat wearer myself but I secretly look forward
to playing ladies in the future. |

Heartz
In true Stargazey style you will be working from easily cut
squares and rectangles - no templates, no foundations, no exact
1/4 seams or perfectly matched corners are needed in these
blocks.
I give you the recipe for 4, 6, 8,
10, and 12 blocks.
Choose any size block, any size quilt, or any combination of
sizes to work into any setting. Design the quilt of your hearts
desire.
Ive made quite a few Heartz versions but the one pictured
here is probably my favorite. Its as colorful as love
is with its bright blues, hot pinks, bitter yellows and jealous
greens, but your version may be simply sweet baby pastels or
the autumn hues of a country love.
Your heartz may be cut from the same fabrics or mixed scrappy
pairs. Your backgrounds could be one constant fabric or you
could cut many backgrounds and stitch together pieces at random
for a multi colored look. Make your quilt as individual as you
are with this easy method.
You will just love it! |
