| Paisley....an old fashioned motif that never looses
it’s appeal.
We’ve all had paisley as part of our life somewhere - granddad's
ties, grandma’s french tablecloth, dad’s flannel dressing
gown....the list goes on. It is nurturing in it’s familiarity.
As a designer Paisley is a theme that is open to tweaking.
Moving away from the conservative I have fiddled with the colours
as my starting point. Here we have beautifully clear strong primaries
- red, yellow and blue then black for added drama and a push towards
a fresher palette with the inclusion of fuschia and lime. Provence
meets Australia if I had to put it in a nutshell.
The designs themselves are simple with use of three reoccurring
motifs - paisley dropletz, daisyz and swirliez. They have simply
been scaled up or down, placed close or sparse and coloured to interchange
well. With six prints and six colorways there should be plenty to
play with.
How to use these?
Just the word Paisley makes them a classic so they will work beautifully
in traditional blocks. My crooked take on the traditional is highly
recommended - Cut Loose easy cut blocks would be excellent here.
Make someone you love a sunny bed or couch cuddle quilt.
Me? I’ll be using my Hatz, Handbagz and Shoez patterns dressed
up in classic finery....then I’d like to make some Napkinz
for summer entertaining....then tablecloth backgrounds for my Cuppaz
pattern then..........
I know I’ll enjoy stitching with these for a long time to
come, here’s hoping you do too,
Jan
