Dressez

I wonder whether I have a subconscious hankering to be a dress designer? I just loved making these two blocks - the Dressmakerz Model and then the Dressez themselves.

The thought behind the two blocks are that the Dressmakerz Model would be the ‘undressed’ foil to variations of style and fabric in the Dressez. From the Modelz easy-to-piece starting point you’ll find it simple to then visualize and make changes.

It is the dresses though that make this pattern exciting. I dare you to even try to make two the same! You will want to make all the variations; short, knee length and longer, slim line profile or full skirt, straps or strap-less or v-neck. Belts, trimmings and accessories will help to make your wardrobe even more exciting both pieced in or embellished if you choose to go further.

Each block has three sizes, 4” x 8”, 6” x 12” and 8” x 16”. As usual they are simple to make in relaxed Stargazey style -where perfect is just not good enough!

Hobby Horsez

Continuing on with my series of animal blocks I’ve approached horses with a little trepidation. I have a great idea for a galloping equine but the blocks would end up being pretty big. Deciding to start on the upper body only, like I did for Catz and Dogz, seemed to be the best option. Horsez heads then turned into Hobby Horsez pretty quickly – much more fun and better connotations - especially as they are planned for quilts!

Make these blocks in three sizes, 10”, 8” and 6” as square blocks or with the extended pole as I have done. They have a bridle to make them distinctively horsey but without that and the mane they could be true blue aussie kangarooz!

Hobby Horsez make a nice cuddle quilt for a youngster. Made in pastel colours they are great for baby quilts. Change the setting and combine with other blocks or some simple appliqué and you’re sure to make a teenage horse-obsessed gal love you!
